James Sampson, father of William Sampson, a Canadian facing a death sentence in Saudi Arabia arrived in the kingdom to meet his son. Sampson insisted his son William was completely innocent of the charges and said he arrived on his own on a one-month visa in a bid to meet him. Sampson, five Britons and a Belgian national are being held in connection with a series of bomb blasts in the Saudi capital in late 2000 which killed one Briton and injured several others. News reports surfaced in 2002 saying Sampson had been sentenced to death The 72-year-old father said he had not been officially notified that his son had been convicted and sentenced, but unofficially "we were told he had been sentenced to be beheaded," though the sentence appears to be not final.
