Jinan Municipal Intermediate People's Court, Shandong Province, sentenced Xue Yuquan, director of the Gold Industry Bureau, to death with two years reprieve for accepting bribes and falsely reporting registered capital. From 1992 to February 2000, Xue reportedly accepted 1.96m yuan in bribes from 83 units and individuals. In December 1997, Xue set up a private enterprise with Xing Xinli, president of Shandong Wantong Enterprise. Xue reportedly embezzled 4m yuan in public funds and transferred the money to his private company.
