Jordanian lawyers staged a one-hour strike to protest an Iraqi court's decision to sentence Saddam Hussein to death for crimes against humanity. Some 250 lawyers demonstrated outside the Palace of Justice in the Jordanian capital, shouting slogans against the death sentence handed down on November 5.
"We denounce the verdict against Iraq's legitimate president, Saddam Hussein, because it's been issued by the American occupation," said the president of Jordan's Bar Association, Saleh al-Armouti, who once belonged to Saddam's defence team.
