JORDAN. MAN EXECUTED FOR MURDER

according to “Jordan Times”, Zuhair Khatib, a man convicted of murdering two people, was executed at dawn at Swaqa correctional and rehabilitation center. Khatib, 27, reportedly asked the execution committee minutes before being hanged to inform his sibling to take good care of his parents.
An execution committee comprising prison officials, a religious cleric, a government pathologist and other officials attended the execution.
Khatib had been sentenced to death in May and again in September 2005 by the Criminal Court after being convicted of murdering two of his friends during an eight-year period. He pled guilty to the murders and confessed in front of the tribunal. Khatib's death sentence was upheld by the Cassation Court and endorsed by the Cabinet and a Royal Decree.
He was convicted of murdering Salah Edin Mohammad, 27, in Sahab, and Jamal Kawasmeh, in Jabal Hussein. Khatib had also been convicted and sentenced to death in May 2005 for the murder of Najeh Khayat, 60. A second man, Bilal Musa, 26, was also been convicted of murdering Khayat in 1995 and was executed by the state in 2000. Two separate death sentences for the same murder was a cause for controversy and Musa's family lodged complaints to human rights organizations and the government claiming that their son had been wrongfully executed.
