JORDAN ORDERS FOUR IRAQI REBELS HANGED

a Jordanian military court sentenced Ziyad Karbouli, 23, a suspected Iraqi Al Qaeda operative, to death for complicity in killing a Jordanian driver, judicial sources said. Three other Iraqi suspects were also sentenced to death in absentia in the case. They were convicted of terrorist attacks that caused loss of life, membership of an outlawed group, illegal possession of weapons and plotting to stage terror attacks. Karbouli was shown confessing on Jordanian state television last May to shooting Jordanian driver Khalid Dassuki in the head in Iraq. However defence lawyers often say confessions of political detainees are extracted under duress.
