Joseph Mokhobo, Douglas Simon and Gouwane Lele Tsae were hanged at the Gaborone central Prison, Botswana. "The three prisoners were executed this morning at Central Prison and their bodies have been laid to rest at the prison cemetery," Commissioner of Prisons Herman Kau said in a statement. Mokhobo was convicted of the murder of Nkute Mabone by dousing him with petrol and setting him alight. He was also convicted of raping the deceased's girlfriend and attempting to murder her in Gabane village, about 15 km west of the capital Gaborone. Mabone suffered severe burns all over his body and died six months later. Simon was convicted of the murder of bedridden George Chabe of Gaborone in January 2000. He forced Chabe to drink a concoction from a traditional doctor aimed at curing his illness. According to evidence presented in court Simon confused the instructions from the doctor who had said the deceased was to bathe with the substance. Tsae reportedly killed his girlfriend's child, following an argument with his partner. The hangings brought the total number of people executed in Botswana since independence in 1966 to 38, AFP reported.
