Justice Minister A.J. Nicholson announced that the Jamaican government had started the process of constitutional reform aimed at resuming hangings. He told reporters at a post cabinet press briefing held at Jamaica House, that the Chief Parliamentary Council had been instructed to draft bills that would effect the necessary amendments. The proposed changes seek to circumvent the UK-based Privy Council, which by its recent rulings have rendered the death penalty almost impossible to carry out.
