Justice Minister Hikmet Sami Turk said that capital punishment did not take place in the new Draft Turkish Penal Code that was prepared. He said this draft may be submitted to the Council of Ministers within six months, and noted that, "capital punishment will be lifted as it is mentioned in the National Programme." Turk also reminded that none of the capital punishment sentences that were given since 1984 were executed.
