Danish Foreign Minister Niels Helveg Petersen, on a visit to Ankara, said that Turkey had made some progress in human rights, however there were still many things to be done in this field. Recalling that Turkey had not executed the death penalty for 15 years, Petersen said that the EU wishes Turkey not to uphold the death penalty not because EU is against this punishment, but for Turkey's own sake.
