Kenny Richey, Jackie Elliot and Krishna Maharaj are the three British inmates on death row in the United States. Jackie Elliot, on death row in Texas, was born at a US airforce base in Suffolk in 1960. He has been on death row since being found guilty in 1986 of the rape and murder of a 19-year old. His lawyers claim he was convicted mainly on the evidence of dubious informers, possibly covering their guilt. Appeals are pending.
Krishna Maharaj, on death row in Florida, is a self-made millionaire who moved to Florida in 1985. Maharaj was accused of shooting dead two former business associates in a Miami hotel room in 1986. He was convicted of murder and received the death sentence, overturned on appeal in 1997. A retrial was denied and Maharaj's lawyers are fighting the possible reimposition of the death penalty.
