in Kenya, three men will be executed for violently raping and robbing two women. Lady Justice Martha Koome and Mr Justice Luka Kimaru upheld the death sentences given to David Kipkoech Kosgei, David Mwangi Kamau and Philip Kipkemoi Magut. The two women were Kitar’s workmates in Kericho Town, they were walking towards their homes together when the appellants who disguised themselves as police officers attacked them at around 7pm on December 18, 2000, behind the Mid-West Hotel within the town. DNA tests from semen and blood samples found on the victims' cloths confirmed that the three raped the women. The victims were also robbed of their identification and bank documents, school leaving and degree certificates, cash and employment cards. The gunmen were caught in the act by a resident in the neighbourhood who heard a commotion and mobilised his neighbours. The court also heard that the second appellant confessed to having committed the crime but later retracted the confession.
