KENYA: AG CONSULTS ON DEATH PENALTY

consultations between the Kenyan Attorney-General’s office, Office of the President and the Ministry of Home Affairs continue on whether the death sentence should be abolished. Public Prosecutions director Keriako Tobiko said the consultations would require at least one month. The Appellate Court directed Public Prosecutions director and Attorney-General Amos Wako to personally respond to Godfrey Ngotho Mutiso's challenge, that the death penalty was unconstitutional. Mutiso was sentenced to death in 2008 by a Mombasa judge after he was found guilty of murdering Mr Patrick Waweru Gachoki in Mkomani in 2004.
