KENYA: MAN SENT TO THE GALLOWS FOR SECOND TIME

a Kenyan court imposed the death sentence on a man for the second time on similar offences, two years after he benefited from a presidential pardon, a report said. A Nairobi magistrate sent John Monjo Njenga, 53, to the gallows for violently robbing 13 000 shillings (about R1 300) and mobile phones on April 4, Daily Metro reported. He was first given a death sentence in 1985 for five bank robberies and 12 carjackings, but the sentence was commuted to life in prison a year later. President Mwai Kibaki finally released him in 2005.
