a man in Kenya was sentenced to death for stealing personal effects, including a mobile phone, worth 15,000 shillings (225 dollars), judicial sources said. A court in the coastal town of Kilifi sentenced Joseph Ole Motosio for the crime committed in October last year in the nearby Mtwapa fishing village. The sources added that the sentence could still be appealed. Motosio was charged under a "robbery with violence" offence which carries the maximum penalty of death if convicted.
