Kenya's Appeal Court expressed shock at the high number of prisoners who had died at the country's Naivasha Maximum Prison. The three judges wondered what was happening at the facility after they learnt that two death row appellants had died within the same month. "What is wrong with Naivasha. How can two inmates die in the same prison within the same month? There must be something going on there," Justice Philip Tunoi said. The previous day, the court had had to terminate the appeals lodged by John Kinyua and Joseph Kimathi, alias Kichwa, as the cases could not be tried posthumously.
