January 16, 2001: Vina Sishabi, from Sri Lanka, was hanged at the central prison of Kuwait city.

a Sri Lankan expatriate, Vina Sishabi, was hanged at the central prison of Kuwait city. He was sentenced to death for killing a Sri Lankan woman, Chandra Smayerla, on 6 November 1997. The woman accepted Sishabi´s offer to take her home and on her way to Fahahil, he killed her and stole 700 Kuwaiti dinars [KD]. The criminal court death sentence was ratified by His Highness the Emir Shaykh Jabir al-Ahmad al-Jabir al-Sabah.
