KUWAIT: MAN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR KILLING MOTHER-IN-LAW WITH KALASHNIKOV

The Court of Cassation on April 8, 2025 upheld the verdict issued by the Court of Appeals which sentenced a 40-year-old Kuwaiti citizen to death for murdering his mother-in-law using a Kalashnikov rifle in Wafra.
He had also planned to kill his wife after she refused to continue their marriage.
The court’s decision was based on a psychiatric report that confirmed that he was fully aware of his actions.
The Public Prosecution had charged the perpetrator with premeditated murder, accusing him of preparing a Kalashnikov for the attack, ambushing his wife, and attempting to stop her while she was with her daughter. She and her daughter tried to escape when he fired multiple times at them intending to kill them. However, the bullets struck his mother-in-law, which led to her death.
During the investigation, the wife confirmed that they had ongoing disagreements and that he had repeatedly threatened to harm her. The perpetrator was arrested while hiding in the desert, where he had planned to attack other relatives.
