KUWAITI COURT UPHOLDS DEATH SENTENCE FOR PHILLIPINE MAID

the Kuwait Appeals Court upheld the death sentence of a Phillipine maid convicted of murdering her Kuwaiti boss in January 2005. Marilou Ranario, 34, was sentenced to death in September 2005 for fatally stabbing her 46-year-old female employer over salary disputes and maltreatment. Ranario, a teacher who came to Kuwait to work as a domestic helper, alleged that her boss insulted her and her countrymen. Saturday's verdict is not final as Ranario still has the chance to challenge it before the Cassation Court, Kuwait's supreme court whose rulings are final.
