Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev signed a decree extending the moratorium on the execution of death sentences in Kyrgyzstan until 31 December 2002.
The Kyrgyz prosecutor-general is to monitor the implementation of the decree.
The Kyrgyz Interior Ministry and the Justice Ministry were instructed to prepare and, by 1 March 2002, submit proposals to the Kyrgyz government to improve the detention conditions of people who have been sentenced to death.
