Lawyers of a Pakistani woman gang-raped on the orders of a village council filed appeals against the acquittal of eight of the men who served on the traditional jury.
Ramzan Khalid Joya, the lawyer for the 30-year-old victim Mukhtaran Mai, said after filing the appeals against the acquittals there was enough evidence to hang all 14 people tried.
Four men were sentenced to death for the rape along with two who served on the jury for abetting the crime. Eight others on the jury were acquitted.
The six men sentenced to hang for the June 22 crime had filed appeals against their sentences on September 3, arguing that the ruling overlooked the law and the facts of the case.
Mai told Reuters she wanted all the acquitted men sentenced.
"Those acquitted were very much part of the panchayat and should be punished. I want to see them hanged for what they did to me."
