Sheikh Omar Bakri Muhammad, the leader of the London-based fundamentalist Islamic group Al-Muhajiroun, which claims to have recruited thousands of British Muslims to fight "holy wars" abroad, said President Musharraf of Pakistan had, under Islamic law, become an apostate for siding with the West against Muslim forces.
"He must be put on trial," Sheikh Omar said. "The punishment if he does not repent is capital punishment. He will be killed if he does not repent."
Sheikh Omar was apparently calling for a fatwa against President Musharraf of Pakistan, for giving support to America's planned military response to the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
