Le Minh Thua, a 32-year-old man, was executed by firing squad in Vietnam for killing and then raping a woman. Minh, a farmer, was put to death at dawn at the Long Huong execution ground in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau. He had been sentenced to death in July 2000 for cutting the throat of his victim on March 6, 1996 and then having sexual intercourse with her dead corpse before fleeing with her jewellery. He was arrested by police in the nearby southern business capital of Ho Chi Minh City in March 2000.
