Local media reported that four members of a gang in southern China that kidnapped children, mostly babies, and sold them to rural families were executed. According to reports twenty others convicted of some role in the ring received lesser sentences. The four executions were carried out after the convicts' appeals were rejected. The ring operated in southern China between 1997 and 1999. It is known to have kidnapped at least 41 children, the majority of them infants.
