Lorry driver S. Jeva, 38, of Trolak and cattle herder S. Mahadevan, 29, of Jelapang, were sentenced to death by the Indonesian High Court after they were found guilty of trafficking in almost 2 kg of ganja. The duo, who had been in remand since their arrest in 1999, were charged with trafficking 1,950g of ganja behind the Esso petrol kiosk at Jalan Ampang, on September 6 of that year. Abdull Hamid, in his judgment, said the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. He added that the two accused had blamed each other and "their testimonies failed to raise any doubts". Counsel Manjeet Kaur, for Jeva, said her client was a first offender and was remorseful.
