Ruslan Bendadeh, 28, an Indonesian labourer was sentenced to death by the High Court for drug trafficking. Judicial commissioner Su Geok Yiam passed the sentence on Bendadeh after finding him guilty of trafficking in 436.2g of cannabis on November 8, 2002. She said she did not have the discretion to impose a lighter sentence because the death sentence was mandatory under section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance 1952.
