MALAYSIA: EX-NAVY TRIO ESCAPE DEATH

three former navy personnel in Malaysia had their death sentences commuted to prison sentences by the Kota Kinabalu Court of Appeal due to doubts over the cause of death and their intention. Khairul Anwar Yaakop, 31, of Melaka, Mohd Rizal Mohamad, 29, of Perak, and Rosnizal Hussain, 27, of Penang, were found guilty of murdering Romie Mohd Lawi, 31, on November 26, 2004, in Labuan. They were sentenced to death by the Labuan High Court on Dec 16, 2005.
