the High Court sentenced 62-year-old grandfather Lau Yew Kwan to death for bringing into Malaysia from Paris 2,144.8gm of MDMA. He had been caught with the drugs at the arrival hall of the KL International Airport on November 5, 2003 upon his return from the French capital. Lau, who was first charged on December 2, 2003 under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, had claimed that he had gone for a holiday to Paris and did not know that the drugs were in his luggage.
