Nomezam Apandy Abu Hasan, 28, a jobless man from Kampung Seri Minyak, Merlimau, was sentenced to death by the Malaysian High Court for murdering a son of deputy superintendent Sekolah Henry Gurney. Justice Datuk Wira Low Hop Bing sentenced him to hang for murdering Noor Luqman Mahayuddin, 20, by the side of Jalan Batu Tujuh, Bukit Lintang, Tiang Dua, at 3am on June 23, 2004. The sentence was under Section 302 of the Penal Code read with Section 277 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Reports said Nomezam and another man had tied Noor Luqman's hands to the steering of his car using a scarf and set fire to the vehicle. Noor Luqman died four days after being admitted to Hospital Melaka's intensive care unit.
