Malaysia - The Federal Court in Putrajava upheld the death sentence of Mohd Nizam Mohamad

The Federal Court in Putrajava today upheld the conviction and death sentence of Mohd Nizam Mohamad for the murder of his 22-month-old baby girl in 2009. A five-member panel chaired by Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin unanimously the man’s final appeal to set aside the High Court and Court of Appeal decisions to convict him for the murder and to sentence him to death. Mohd Nizam, 35, was found guilty and sentenced to death by the Kangar High Court on Feb 24, 2011 for the murder of Nur Azlina Abdullah at a house in Jalan Tok Dewa at Repoh, Kangar, Perlis between 9am on Nov 23 and noon on Nov 24 in 2009. On April 18, last year, the Court of Appeal dismissed Mohd Nizam’s appeal and upheld the high court’s decision. According to the facts of the case, the mother of the baby, who was Mohd Nizam’s girlfriend, said the hands and feet of her child were swollen, and there were red marks on the baby’s abdomen and private part.
