the al-Muthanna Criminal Court in Iraq sentenced a man to death for assassinating former governor Mohammed Ali al-Hassani, a court official said. “Rassoul Abdelamir Jassem was sentenced under article 4 of the anti-terror law.” Hassani was assassinated on August 20, 2007, in his hometown of al-Rumeitha when an improvised explosive device went off near his vehicle. The IED attack also killed one of his escorts and wounded another.
