Mary Jane Ramos, a Filipino domestic helper, was saved from execution for murder in a decision issued by the Ras Al Khaima court, after President Estrada told Philippine embassy officials in Dubai to exhaust whatever funds to make sure the defense lawyers could prove the innocence of Ramos. UAE will repatriate Ramos if there is no appeal from the prosecution within 15 days from the lower courts decision.
