Micheal Sexton, 34, black, was executed by lethal injection in Raleigh's Central Prison. He was pronounced dead at 02:34. He had been convicted of raping and killing Crews, a white woman, in 1990. He was the first and only person to be put to death in the State during the year. He was the 74th to be put to death in the U.S. during the year and No 672 since the death penalty was re-introduced in 1976.
