Mohamed Aly Abbas, a Turkish national suspected of killing Briton Edgar Fernandes was extradited from Malta to Turkey. He is to stand trial for the murder of the 37-year-old librarian in Istanbul in 1998, after Turkish authorities pledged that Abbas would get a prison sentence not capital punishment if convicted. Maltese authorities had previously refused to extradite Abbas to Turkey to answer murder charges because he could face the death penalty. The suspect was arrested in Malta after being traced through Fernandes' credit card.
