More than 100 French deputies sent a letter to each member of the US Congress asking them to abolish the death penalty, the president of the Franco-American Friendship Committee said. Andre Vallini, a deputy from the ruling Socialist Party, said in a statement: "We cannot keep silent any longer in the face of the killing that goes on in the United States."
