Morocco condemned a man to death for the murder of a policeman during an escape attempt from court.
Ibrahim Ben Ahmed Charki was condemned by the same court in the Northern Tetouan city where the killing occurred in February 2003. Charki, who already had a criminal record, was being tried for a murder committed in the Moroccan Atlantic coast city of Agadir. In an attempt to escape while the court was hearing his case, he took out two knives from his sleeves and stabbed two policemen. A policeman died and the other was seriously injured.
Three guards of the Tetouan jail, where Charki was detained, were sentenced to three months imprisonment. They were found guilty of involvement in the case.
