National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Reynaldo Wycoco said that NBI strongly opposed a Senate move to abolish the death penalty law.
Wycoco, fomer No. 2 officer of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said the abolition of the maximum penalty of death for convicted criminals would be a big blow to the efforts of the law-enforcement agencies which are going after big-time members of crime rings in the country.
Wycoco also that the imposition of the death penalty on those found guilty of heinous crimes is just a punishment for criminals. The NBI director insisted that the death through lethal injection remains an effective deterrent against crimes.
