New Mexico has had no executions since its death penalty was reinstated in 1979. In 1986, Governor Toney Anaya commuted the death sentences of all those on death row. In September, one current inmate, Terry Clark, on death row for nearly a dozen years, waived his appeals and "volunteered" for execution, which could occur early in 2000.
