New Zealand's delegate to the UN Third Committee debate on human rights abuses, Deborah Geels, speaking on behalf of the South Pacific Group, said New Zealand was particularly concerned about the continued use of the death penalty, and urged those States that had not yet abolished the death penalty to do so.
It was especially distressing that some countries imposed the death penalty on young people below the age of 18, Ms Geels said.
