New Zealand's Miss World contestant, Rachel Huljich, said she will go to the beauty pageant in Nigeria because she believes a boycott will not help a woman who faces a death sentence. Ms Huljich said that she had decided to attend next month after learning that the Nigerian woman sentenced to be stoned to death, 31-year-old Amina Lawal, had said a boycott would not help her. Some contestants had planned to boycott the pageant in protest at the sentence imposed on the woman under Sharia, a radical interpretation of Islamic law, by a religious court in northern Nigeria. Ms Huljich said she was encouraged that the Nigerian Government had indicated the sentence would be overturned by higher courts. "Amina herself said, `Let them come' ... I think my voice will be heard more by going."
