Nguyen Van Thanh, unemployed, was sentenced to death by firing squad in Vietnam after being convicted of killing a motorbike taxi driver 13 years earlier and stealing his possessions. Thanh, 38, was sentenced to death by the People's Court of the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong for stabbing to death his 52-year-old victim in May 1991. After the murder, Thanh fled to the south but then returned to Dak Lak province, which is also in the Central Highlands, and married a local woman. He was eventually arrested there on April 27, 2004.
