the Nigerian Human Rights Commission asked governors from the South East and South geopolitical zones to reconsider their position on the laws, which impose the death penalty on kidnappers. The commission said there was a ‘dire need for them to tread cautiously.’ The commission's Executive Secretary, Roland Ewubare, advised state governors to rescind their decisions to impose death penalty on kidnappers because it was against current global trend and a breach of constitution and the right to life.
