NIGERIA: DIKIBO’S KILLERS SENTENCED TO DEATH

Onyeka Emordi and Solomon Igbinedion were sentenced to death by hanging for the alleged killing of the Nigerian Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Chief A.K. Dikibo, on February 6, 2004. Justice Anthony Akbovi of the Ogwashi-Uku High Court found the accused guilty of murder, relying on the confessional statements of the accused. The two condemned persons were facing two-count charge of murder and robbery. Dikibo, the former National Vice Chairman of the PDP in charge of the South-South, was killed on the Ughelli–Ogwashi-Uku Road while on his way to attend a zonal leaders’ meeting of the party in Asaba, Delta State.
