Ohio's electric chair, which has sat unused since 1963, was idled permanently when the Senate voted 26-3 to abolish electrocution as a means of execution. Lethal injection will be the only method of administering the death penalty once Gov. Bob Taft signs the measure, which was previously approved by the House in an 81-15 vote. "Old Sparky" was used to execute 315 persons between 1897 and 1963.
