Oliver Cruz, 39, of Hispanic origin was executed by lethal injection. He had been convicted of raping and murdering Kelly Elizabeth Donovan, a 24 year old white woman, on 7th August 1988. He was the 28th person to be executed in the State during the year, No 227 since the State resumed executions in 1974. He was the 58th to be put to death in the U.S. during the year and No 656 since the death penalty was re-introduced in 1976.
