On April 21, Cletus Timothy, Dexter Reid and Sheldon Lewis, 3 men held on death row in Trinidad and Tobago for nearly 4 years, were released after the British Privy Council overturned their convictions. The 3 were sentenced to death in May 1995 for the murder of Keith Alfred in 1992. A fourth man also convicted, Lennox McCain, died in prison in 1996 from illness. The Privy Council said the trial judge erred in allowing police officers to use Timothy's oral confession.
