On April 28, Andrew Ford, leader of the ultra-right-wing Boere Weerstands Beweging (BWB), urged the Freedom Front to stop its calls for the reinstatement of the death penalty. "We have no doubt that the regime will use capital punishment against Boer fighters in prison and those still active in the field," FF leader Constand Viljoen said. The BWB strives to restore the old Transvaal and Orange Free State republics by force. It claims to represent several right-wingers who escaped the gallows for 1994 pre-election violence when capital punishment was scrapped.
