On December 22, the Supreme Court Criminal Department No. 9 upheld unanimously the capital punishment given to Semdin Sakik, the second leading name in the PKK. The Supreme Court Criminal Department No. 9 stated: "Having regard to [the fact] that the accused did not surrender to the security forces but was captured in an operation in Duhok, and did not give information which would be enough to eliminate the terrorist organization, the court rejected Semdin Sakik's request to benefit from the Repentance Law." Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Criminal Department No. 9 annulled the capital punishment given to Arif Sakik, the brother of Semdin Sakik, due to "imperfect investigation."
