On January 11, the Supreme Court halted executions ordered by military courts in Karachi until it ruled on their validity. Chief Justice Ajmal Mian said in a brief order that until the court made a final decision, the government "shall not execute death sentences already awarded by the military courts or which may be awarded hereafter." He set the next hearing for February 1. The Court did not stop military courts from hearing cases.
