On June 25, convicted drug traffickers Cheong Chuan Peng, 36, and Chua Gin Boon, 34, were hanged at Changi Prison. They were arrested by Central Narcotics Bureau officers last July. Cheong was caught on July 27 when the CNB launched Operation Galaxy to track him down. He was transporting heroin in a taxi when the CNB officers intercepted him in Ang Mo Kio. They found a plastic bag containing 42.79g of heroin and 0.79g of "Ice" on him. He was convicted of drug trafficking by the High Court in January this year and was sentenced to death. He did not appeal against his conviction. In the other case, Chua was arrested by CNB officers on July 2 last year at the lobby of a hotel in Geylang. When the officers searched his room, they found 60.25g of heroin as well as 8.56g. of 'Ice' and other illegal drugs. The court found him guilty of trafficking after a trial in January. Chua, who was sentenced to death, also did not appeal against his conviction.
