On June 26, the People's Supreme Court sentenced Ha Van Thuy, a former customs officer in the Lai Chau Province Customs Department, to death. It was reported that during 1994 and 1996, Thuy, worked in the Tay Trang Border Gate, colluding with traffickers to smuggle large amounts of heroin into Vietnam. Thuy also bought the drug from Xieng Nhung, a member of the convicted Vu Xuan Truong drug trafficking ring.
